Director Yeo Siew Hua takes home the Golden Leopard for his movie “A Land Imagined” at the 71st edition of Locarno Festival.
The movie starts with Wang, a lonely construction worker from China goes missing at a Singapore land reclamation site after forming a virtual friendship with a mysterious gamer. A police investigator named Lok has to uncover the truth in order to find him. The movie is directed by Yeo Siew Hua, with Peter yu, Liu Xiaoyi, Luna Kwok, Jack Tan, Ishtiaque Zico. The whole movie is shot entirely at night indulging in late night shifts.
Further, the awards included in the festival were: The Special Jury Prize for movie “M” went to Yolande Zauberman, Dominga Sotomayor won the best director for “Tarde Para Morir Joven”, and Richard Billingham won a special mention for the movie “Ray & Liz”. Best actress for Radu Muntean’s “Alice T.” was won by Andra Guti and Ki Joo-bong won the best actor for Hong Sangsoo’s “Hotel by the River.” Sara Fattahi won best film award for “Chaos” and the special jury prize went to Nicole Vogele for “Closing Time.” The best film award went to Lin Zi for the movie “The Fragile House”, Eva Trobisch got the prize for the best first feature for “Alles Ist Gut.” Spike Lee movie “BlacKkKlansman” won the Prix du Public.
Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian in his sixth and final festival said that “Locarno71 was a rich and diversified edition which is held in extremely high temperatures and also it is in the tradition of the festival which is not afraid to approach extremes and to combine a smile with reflection.”
Finally, the festival ends on Saturday with a screening of the film I Feel Good by Benoit Delepine and Gustave Kervern in the Piazza Grande. The 72nd Locarno Festival is supposed to take place somewhere between Aug. 7 to 17, 2019.
